Women’s basketball rises in Libourne

The new president of the club, Michele Lannois, present for twenty-two years in the Libourne institution, keeps her feet on the ground. “I want measured growth. We will not be able to play at a very high level, we need tenfold means on the room or the budget. To date, we have 297 licensees for three gymnasiums, or 24 teams from U6 to seniors. You have to be able to fit everyone into training in the slots. »

Twenty-four teams

As in most clubs, it is the flag team that promotes the club or attracts external recruits. And as such, the Libournais club has made strong progress at the women’s level with three climbs in the last four years. The group is one step away from the Pre-national division, the last level before national competitions.

Michèle Lannois explains the benefits of the agreement with neighboring clubs which has ensured the visibility of the club at this level. “AS Libourne still exists and has made an agreement with Coutras-Guîtres and Saint-Denis-de-Pile to bring women’s basketball to life. This project is bearing fruit with a great U 15 Pre-region team and our seniors, but not only. This season, seven players from the R2 group are part of the beginning of the story and five recruits with a good technical background have come to strengthen us. »

With a young coach at his head, Cédric Lalanne, who was still playing in N2 last year, aims to maintain it. The team totals three victories for four defeats and is not yet at 100%.
