With a goal by Brandon Caicedo, Club Atlético Independiente advanced to the soccer final in Panama | Colombians Abroad

The Independent Athletic Club of La Chorrera (CAI), with a goal from the Colombian Brandon Caicedo defeated Sporting San Miguelito 1-0 this Saturday and became the first finalist of the Clausura 2022 tournament of the Panamanian Football League (LPF).

Both teams came to this return duel with a goal on both sides and with the desire to close well and seal their ticket.

CAI, the local team today, took the initiative in the duel, when in the 5th minute of the clash Uziel Maltez gave the first bell with a shot, who passed close to the crossbar of Sporting’s goal, guarded by Jorginho Frías, drowning out the CAI fans’ scream of goal.

The duel was marked by a heavy downpour in La Chorrera, west of the Panamanian capital, but that did not prevent both teams from giving their all.

Alexis Palacios, in the 12th minute, took a powerful shot that went past Frías’ goal, once again the team and the speed of CAI create danger.

In minute 21, Alejandro Yearwood almost scored an Olympic goal, one more from CAI, Until now, the San Miguelito team did not appear in the game.

The first of the team from the Panamanian capital came in the 27th minute, in a free kick shot by Brazilian Dwann Oliveira.

In the 35th minute, Jorlian Sánchez had another opportunity for Sporting, but his shot went wide of the rival frame.

The crucial moment of the match came in the 46th minute of the first half, when the Colombian Brandon Caicedo, controlled a ball and shot Frias, to put the 1-0 on the scoreboard and the 2-1 on the global scoreboard.

With the advantage for the chorreranos came the end of the first half.

The second half was somewhat more even, with CAI looking to widen the score against and Sporting desperate to level the tables.

In minute 53 came the first bell for CAI in the second half, in a shot by Víctor Ávila.

Sporting’s clearest goal was in the 63rd minute, in an error by Sergio Ramírez, who almost scored in his own goal with a header, but goalkeeper César Samudio stretched himself thoroughly and saved the tragedy.

Five minutes later, Samudio enlarged his figure by covering a shot by Tomás Rodríguez.

The CAI looked comfortable with the result handling the ball, but not giving up the attack, but that could cost them the draw, when Fernando McLean took advantage of a lack of attention from the defensive line, but in the end everything was just one more attack.

With a well-placed CAI on the pitch, 90 minutes and five extra minutes arrived for the referee to conclude the match and CAI is the first finalist in Panamanian soccer and now awaits its rival that will come out of this Sunday’s duel between the Arab United of Colon and Club Deportivo Universitario.
