It was the 90s when a young Luis Olmedo arrived from Venezuela to offer the Rams his jokes. He played in Viterbo from 1989 to 1993, finishing with a stratospheric batting average and moving to San Marino the following year.
Since 1995 he has dedicated himself to the education of young people, even leading some Venezuelan national selections, and specializing in infield and serve. He recently directed the development program for young baseball players in the state of Aragua, with the prospect of signing professional contracts in the United States.
Today he returned to Italy, called by WiPlanet to allow the yellow-green teams to make the most of the entire winter season, arriving at the start of the championship ready to play all their cards.
We must emphasize that this arrival has something original; in fact, all the Venezuelans who come to Italian baseball clubs arrive in the spring, avoiding the winter cold, to which they are not used to. But the club fails, having obtained the use of the Manzoni Middle School gym thanks to the availability of the Dalla Chiesa Comprehensive Institute and the municipal administration, intends to use the indoor activity to better prepare its teams. For this he particularly thanks Luis Olmedo, who will have to make a great effort to adapt to the European climate; in Venezuela the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees.
“I am deeply involved with the sports club and with Montefiascone – said Olmedo – and for this reason I will put a lot of effort into making all these guys progress. In the meantime, I have seen first-hand that the first team wants to win and therefore we are already thinking about the next Serie C championship.”
The Faliscan company aims to improve the third place in the standings achieved with the C series in 2022, while the Under 12s, in the first championship, will need to gain experience and Minibaseball will continue the growth path already begun.
“Winter preparation is essential for learning and improving what are defined as the fundamentals of baseball – said the president Tabarrini – and this is the prerequisite for the technical growth that will certainly emerge when we go on the field in the spring. Olmedo has already taken charge of all the teams, from the little ones in Minibaseball to the Under 12s, in collaboration with the current technicians, but above all in the C series, for which we don’t hide our ambitious goals “
Now the preparation takes place in the Manzoni gym on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, waiting to plan events for the Christmas activities. All boys and girls born between 2009 and 2017 can start at any time, the company offers everyone a trial period and enrollments are always open.
