Werder Bremen: “Get on your face!” Voices to the SVW smack!

Munich – That was bad! SV Werder Bremen is shown the limits against FC Bayern Munich and loses 1: 6 (1: 4) in the Allianz Arena. This leaves SVW with 21 points after 14 matchdays and has a negative goal difference for the first time this season. The voices on the debacle of Ole Werner, Marco Friedl, Leonardo Bittencourt and Co.

Ole Werner (Werder Bremen manager): “The only thing that annoys me now were the last two ‘own goals’. We calmed down the game a bit in the second half. Otherwise you have to acknowledge that Bayern is in a different league. You always have to be self-critical and see what you can improve. But Mainz lost 2:6 here, Freiburg 0:5. In terms of condition, Bayern have outgrown the league a bit if they don’t voluntarily miss the goal like they did a few weeks ago. That’s why you don’t have to mortify yourself and run through the city like a crouched dog.”

Werder Bremen goes down 1: 6 against FC Bayern – the voices of the game

Marco Friedl (Werder captain): “We got punched in the face today. We actually did well in the first 15 minutes. Then the 15 minutes after that it’s a total blackout and we concede the three goals we conceded. If you go into the break with a 1:4 in Munich, then it’s almost impossible to get anything. Bayern simply plays in a different league. You’re still not allowed to concede six goals here.”

Leonardo Bittencourt (Werder Bremen professional): “We had the plan to go up front, as we have shown all year. We did that very well in the first quarter of an hour, winning a lot of balls in Bayern’s half. We may still have to learn to say after the 1-1 and the saved penalty: Let’s maybe stand a bit lower and stop running up front. It was also perhaps a bit overwhelming for many because one or the other had never played here before. But all in all we have enough players in the squad who have enough experience. A defeat like that in Munich shouldn’t happen to us anyway. We won’t let that ruin the year because it was a really nice year. We still have a great home game ahead of us. We want to end a great year on a positive note. We deserve it too. But for that we have to step it up a notch.”

Werder Bremen pros consistently self-critical: the votes on the game against FC Bayern

Anthony Jung (goal scorer for Werder Bremen): “We said before that you need a perfect day in Munich to take something with you. Bayern have enormous quality, especially in the transition game and in the last third. We lacked the last precision, the last punch. In the phase when it’s 1-1 and the penalty is saved, you think: Something’s going to happen here today. But then we couldn’t pull the game to our side. But we also have to be realistic enough. We haven’t lost anywhere. We’re not the first team to be shot out of the stadium here. Maybe it ended up being a goal or two too high. We have to learn from this game. It’s about not letting the whole mood change now. We’ve already been able to show our faces for that.”

Marvin Ducksch (Werder Bremen striker): “We tried to play our football. Bayern then mercilessly exploited this three times within six minutes. You are then 1:4 behind. Then of course it is very difficult. You could see that we then put up a fight. The two goals at the back were bitter, they don’t have to come like that.” (fwa)
