Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam national basketball team returned for the first time in 60 years to the arena of the FIBA Asia Championship with an impressive performance in the qualifiers, held from November 10 to 14 in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).
This is a 5×5 main tournament of the FIBA Asia Championship and Vietnam is in group D with Malaysia, Mongolia, Tahiti and Thailand, Nhan Dan newspaper reported.
During the last 10 years the basket Vietnamese has made considerable progress with positive results at the XXX and XXXI Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
The first victory 84-41 against Tahiti on November 10 marked the impressive return of the Vietnamese team to the continental arena. However, the team could not get past the Thai and Mongolian opponents.
