The constituency is rapidly changing as the unification of some candidates, which had emerged as a variable in the 3rd popular election for Gwangju City Sports Hall, failed.

Some of the candidates who were discussing the unification of the five parties are contemplating giving up the candidacy and differing opinions on the unification method among the candidates.

Currently, there are about six candidates competing for the seat of the Gwangju City Sports Hall. Representatives include Kim Yong-joo, president of Jokgu Association, Park Chan-mo, president of the Athletics Federation, Lee Chang-hyeon, president of the Swimming Federation, Jeon Gap-su, president of the Volleyball Association, Choi Gap-ryeol, president of Gwangsan-gu Sports Complex, and Hong Seong-gil, president of the Badminton Association (in alphabetical order).

Among them, five candidates, except for Choi Gap-ryeol, president of Gwangsan-gu Sports Complex, are known to be pushing for unification. In the meantime, there is a memory that Gwangju Sports has suffered from divisions and conflicts during the 1st and 2nd popular elections, so this is not to be repeated.

However, noise arose over the unification method and process. In response, Chairman Hong Seong-gil said, “There was a disagreement during the unification process, so we decided to walk an independent route.” It is also known that Chairman Lee Chang-hyeon is struggling with the candidacy itself.

The discussion on unification, which initially started with five people, now has only three people left: Chairman Kim Yong-soo, Chairman Park Chan-mo, and Chairman Jeon Gap-su. Among them, Chairman Kim decided to actively support the former chairman, and it was confirmed that he had a meeting with Chairman Park on the evening of the 2nd.

In the midst of this, the deadline for candidacy registration, December 5, is approaching about a month away. After making a final decision on unification within this period, you must register as a candidate. According to the Gwangju Athletic Association, none of them have announced their intention to register for candidacy yet.
