Two silver medals and one bronze, the Belgians shine at the Baku Grand Slam of judo

Three Belgians, three medals! The black-yellow-red judokas performed superbly at the Baku Grand Slam in Azerbaijan. Two silver medals and one bronze, it’s the beautiful harvest of this Saturday afternoon. Matthias Casse et Gabriella Willems took a fine second place, Malik Umayev won the fight for bronze.

In less than 81 kilos, Matthias Casse lost in the final on waza ari against the local of the event, Saeid Mollaei. This is the Antwerp native’s seventh Grand Slam medal.

For her second consecutive Grand Slam final, Gabriella Willems (in less than 70 kilos) lost by ippon in the final against the Dutch, Sanne Van Dijke. But it confirms its excellent form.

In the final for bronze in under 73 kilos, Malik Umayev won the small final with the golden score. A victory over waza ari against Murodjon Yudoshev, the Uzbek. This is the second medal of his career in a grand slam, the first in less than 73 kilos.
