In his book on the Dream Team, Jack McCallum reveals a bunch of tasty anecdotes about the members of the team and the way in which their personalities and their characters sometimes clashed. In the chapter devoted to David Robinson and to his wise, pious and diplomatic personality, the journalist remembers an episode which allowed him to understand to what extent “The Admiral” sometimes could not bear the foul language of some of his comrades at the time.

During a round of golf right in the middle of the 92 Olympics in which Charles Barkley et Clyde Drexlerthe latter two took pleasure in swearing wrong and through with each miss (and with “Chuck” there were tons of them), as much to let off steam a little as to tease and irritate their comrade Robinson.

After a couple of warnings not to blaspheme or speak in those terms, especially Barkley, Robinson cracked down. The San Antonio Spurs franchise player picked up the golf equipment without a word and quietly returned to the US delegation hotel, leaving Barkley and Drexler in the lurch.

The two tricksters then understood that day that it was better not to upset their comrade, as nice as he may seem…
