2) The weather vanes in the café refer to other Tim Burton films
Mark Scruton, the production designer of Wednesday, revealed that the Weathervanes cafe pays homage to filmmaker Tim Burton’s other films. Indeed, the weather vanes hung on the wall refer in particular to the Headless Horseman Sleepy Hollow and Willy Wonka’s hat.
3) The stuffed bear in the director’s office evokes the one seen in the series The Addams Family

However, the most knowledgeable fans have not missed out on the stuffed bear in the director’s office of Nevermore, Larissa Weems. The animal is reminiscent of the one that appeared in the Addams house in the very popular series of the 60s.
4) The theme park is a nod to the sequel to the film, Addams Family Values
Wednesday hates everything about pilgrims and colonialism. When she transfers to her new school Nevermore, she learns that the nearest theme park is called Pilgrim World. The theme park is a nod to the film’s sequel, The Addams Family Values, when the eldest daughter and her brother Pugsley are sent to Camp Chippewa. It’s a place no one can stand, especially Wednesday which burns the Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving celebration.
5) Wednesday tries his hand at archery again
Another subtle nod to Addams Family Values occurs when Wednesday takes a bow. In the 90s film, she and Pugsley show their skills in this discipline. As Wednesday reads a letter from Uncle Fetid, Pugsley shoots an American bald eagle. A nice reference!
6) The Gargoyles at Nevermore Academy
Mark Scruton, the production designer of the series broadcast on Netflix, specifies that the gargoyles in the quad are a huge easter egg in the series : “The gargoyles reference different characters, and there’s a big plot point hidden there.”
7) Pugsley is shown with an apple stuck in his mouth
The first time audiences meet Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley, in the movie, he an apple stuck in your mouth. The latter is also tied up when she shoots an arrow at him. In the series, his sister opens her locker and discovers Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) tied up with an apple in his mouth. This sets off the chain of events that sends Wednesday to Nevermore Academy.
8) Morticia Addams cut rose
In episode 5 of Wednesdaywe can see the Morticia Addams embodied by Catherine Zeta-Jones tear off the top of the rose and throw the stem near Garrett’s stele. Something to remind us of the annoying tendency of Morticia Addams to cut out her roses and keep only the stem, whether in the films of the 90s as in the series of the 60s. A delicious memory!
