RAGUSA – Virtus Ragusa takes the field after the missed match against Orlandina Basket due to a blackout and does so at the Pala Padua against Brianza Casa Basket. Fierce match that saw coach Lombardi’s men grab the victory in the final seconds.
THE CHRONICLE
Match that opens immediately with the points put on the scoresheet by Gaetano and Sorrentino. The Lombards try to start the engines but Ianelli shuts down any assault attempt with a triple from the corner. Despite the subdued start, the Brianzas begin to assault the local area, finding excellent ideas from the paint. Lanzi and Galassi find free passages and take advantage of them and reach the hosts in a few minutes. Sorrentino will find the way to the basket again but the guests will remain well anchored in the game by trying a lunge and acquiring a temporary break that will give them distance on the scoreboard. Ianelli will become the protagonist of well thought-out actions under the bridge and will carry on his own team despite Bugatti managing to violate the Hyblaean area several times.
Pirola opens the second quarter with a shot from average. The Lombards want to stretch on the Iblei at all costs but Cassar under the arch is more solid and manages to move the retina. Even Zanetti becomes more incisive and with excellent plays from the painting he realizes by exploiting an opening not manned by the guests. For long stretches there is a question and answer between the two teams which will produce a substantial balance on the scoreboard. Only in the last seconds of the second half did Lanzi find a solution from long distance which confirmed Brianza’s new advantage.
Upon returning from the changing rooms, the Ragusans immediately try to overtake and find it with Sorrentino but Todeschini on the other side with a shot from outside the area to catch the local team again. And so the Lombards find trust and with the usual Lanzi and Bugatti they go even further trying to create a safe distance between themselves and the hosts. Cassar moves with more vigor under the basket and after a power block on Bugatti he sets the guest retina on fire. Shortly after, however, the same Maltese will be sanctioned once again by the referee and will have to leave the field. Ianelli raises his voice in the area and manages to finish after well-constructed actions. But the guests don’t give up a step trying to keep the advantage at all costs. Poser tries and finds a solution from outside the area and Ianelli does the same in the evening of grace from the arc. Jovanonic manages to intercept a turnover and runs towards the basket but will find Simon who stops his dunk attempt with a block. At this point coach Bocchino’s men show themselves to be more solid in the area reaching parity at the end of the 3rd quarter thanks to a shot from Gaetano’s area.
The last quarter is played at doubled speed. Neither of the two teams wants to give way and we will go forward step by step. Tempers also heat up and fouls begin to flock which will bring numerous players out for 5 fouls. Ianelli was once again the protagonist of a shot from outside the area which led Ragusa to put his head forward. Even Festine and Gaetano show themselves more lucid under the planks, bringing other points to the scoresheet. At this point Brianza relies on Fabiani who manages to bring his team one step away from the premises. But Festinese interrupts the ascent of the Lombards by building from the area. But in the 35th minute a triple from Todeschini’s corner will bring the game back to a draw (65-65) followed after a minute by Lanzi who manages to overtake. At this point Gaetano, first with a shot from the area and then with a dunk, will once again be able to reverse the result. Fabiani catches the landlords from the line. Ianelli attacks with doubled intensity and Sorrentino does the same. But in the final Bugatti first from the charity line and then after a very fast action from the paint will sanction yet another overtaking that will be worth the victory of Brianza Casa Basket.
THE STATEMENTS
“I’m happy – commented coach Bocchino at the end of the match – with the reaction the team had, starting with captain Sorrentino and Ianelli. Some unclear episodes led us to lose this match but we managed to recover from the disadvantage and raise the defensive direction by producing some excellent actions. Cassar’s exit also penalized us and the coach booed on the bench with the ball in hand 1’26” from the end of the match because some players had stood up. I’m sorry and the team is sorry for this defeat. We are in a difficult moment and now we need to tighten the shirts and get back to work immediately as we have always done, aware of the mistakes made but above all without creating excuses “.
