The residents of Noja have in their hands the choice of what the future space ‘La Raqueta’ of the Playa Dorada Leisure Center will be like, an action that contemplates the comprehensive renovation of the facilities with which the sports offer of the municipality will be expanded.

The City Council, in collaboration with the Municipal Board of Culture and Sports, has launched an exhibition with the four finalist projects, in which you can see both the design of the building that each one of them proposes for this space of about 6,000 square meters , such as the distribution of sports areas and their characteristics.

Along with the 14 information panels with all the data on the different alternatives, Nojeños will find a small questionnaire in which, in addition to evaluating the projects with a score, they can leave their suggestions and comments on each of them.

The exhibition is currently on display at the Playa Dorada Leisure Center, moving on Monday, November 28, to the Multipurpose Room of the Tourist Office located in Plaza de la Villa, where it can be seen during the following weeks.

The four finalist projects, beyond their different designs, have a series of common elements. The new space ‘La Raqueta’ will have 5 glass paddle tennis courts, a tennis court, a fronton, a climbing wall, 2 badminton courts, 2 ping-pong tables, an athletics track with four lanes and a jumping pit, and a solarium next to the current pool, also having a cover and a perimeter fence.

To all this are added track changing rooms, changing rooms for the referees, and other changing rooms that will be connected to the rest of the Leisure Center through the south façade of the pool, a cafeteria and restaurant service connected to the sports court, as well as of stands to the main paddle tennis courts.

Regarding the paddle tennis courts, they have the latest generation artificial grass. The athletics track is 80 meters long and five meters wide, while the climbing wall is 6 meters high, which can be increased in difficulty if users so request.

Lastly, it includes the construction of a multi-use underground space in which an underground car park with capacity for more than fifty spaces for users of the Leisure Center will be located, and which may be used for different activities.

The mayor, Miguel Ángel Ruiz, has indicated that this initiative aims to “involve the residents of Noja and all those who want to participate in one of the most important projects for the town, which will make it possible to recover an unused space and provide it with a key importance for the development of sport in the municipality.

For her part, the Councilor for Sports, Blanca Corral, stressed that this new space ‘La Raqueta’ will allow Noja “to complete a sports offer of the highest level, providing amateurs and professionals with spaces that can host all kinds of competitions.”

The manager of the Municipal Board of Culture and Sports, Gabriel Pérez, valued this renovation as “a great boost for the facilities of the Playa Dorada Leisure Center”, which in this way “continues to grow to become a comprehensive and multidisciplinary space that will serve residents and visitors from different parts of Cantabria and other autonomous communities.
