The Norwegian women’s national team triumphs in the European handball championship

The Norwegian national team became the European women’s handball champion team on Sunday, beating the Danish national team 27:25 (12:15) in the final in an intense battle.

Norwegian women are the most titled handball players in Europe, becoming champions for the second time in a row and the ninth overall.

The Danes were in the lead for most of the match, but Norway took the lead for the first time only in the 53rd minute, reaching 24:23. It was successfully protected until the match. Nora Merka was more productive for the winners with eight goals, while Louise Burgord stood out for the Danish national team with six accurate shots.

In the fight for bronze medals, the Montenegrin national team unexpectedly beat the Olympic champions France with 27:25 (13:12, 9:10).

Montenegrin handball players had won awards at the European championships only once, when they sensationally won the gold in 2012.

Jovanka Radičević and Djurdjina Jauković scored six goals each for the winners, while Estelle Nze Minko and Lucija Granier scored four goals each for the French national team.

With their triumph in the European Championship, Norwegian handball players guaranteed themselves a place in the 2024 Olympic Games, while participation in the 2023 World Championship was secured by the other medalists, as well as France, France, Sweden and the Netherlands.
