The Ministry of Sports sponsors the celebration of the National University Table Tennis Tournament

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) announced the celebration of the National University Table Tennis Tournament, on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of this month starting at 9:00 in the morning on the courts of the Parque del East.

This was announced by the Vice Minister of School Sports of Miderec, Juan Vila, during a conference held at the headquarters of that portfolio.

Vila said that at least a hundred athletes will compete in the fair, belonging to 10 universities, among which he cited the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), APEC, the National Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), INTEC, ISFODOSU and the Nordestana University. .

These study centers will compete in the modalities of single, doubles, both male and female, mixed double, as well as by teams.

Vila assured that there is great enthusiasm among the universities that will participate in the contest, whose athletes in both branches have perfectly complied with the training rhythm.

“We have been fully complying with the entire competition program developed by the National University Sports Commission with the firm support of the Ministry of Sports led by our minister Francisco Camacho, who has always been concerned about the development of sport at the school level and college,” Vila said.

He added that just a few days ago what was the university softball tournament ended and immediately “we framed ourselves in holding this table tennis contest, a fact that represents great proof of the work we have been developing.

Roque García, director of University Sports, participated in the meeting, who stated that this is a contest that takes place every year and it is part of the calendar run by the National University Sports Commission and the best talent in this discipline in the country participates. .

For his part, Gary Hernández, general secretary of the Dominican Table Tennis Federation, explained that holding this event strengthens what has been the program of activities that this entity has been celebrating throughout the year.

“We have always upheld that education and sports are the main vehicles to keep youth away from vices and crime, and those are the things that concern us,” said Hernández.

The activity was attended by the former table tennis champion, Blanca Iris Alejo, as well as Rafael Pérez, director of School Sports at Miderec.
