Before the stoppage of the OK League for the World Cup dispute, the coach of Garatge Plana Girona, Ramon Benito marked the first two games, with Caldes and Vilafranca, as keys “to achieve a first victory”. The first opportunity, which was the more complicated of the two, was not taken advantage of, and now the team faces Saturday’s match with the need to start adding three by three “yes or no” . It is necessary to move away from the bottom of the table and, for this reason, “it will be a final”, assures the coach.
On paper, the opponent is the weakest in the OK Liga: It has lost each of the seven games it has played this season. In practice, however, Girona will need to be very solid to beat a team that, like them, will also want to take their first win of the season. Solidity, in fact, is one of the virtues that the team has lacked at the moment. “We are irregular and we have to improve in this sense, because there are times when we play very well, but others where we disappear”, says Benito. The truth is that, as the coach rightly states, “no direct rival has surpassed Girona”, who have even faced top teams such as Noia (1-2), who are third, or El Calafell (2-2), second. With the latter, in fact, the tie reached the end, when Girona already smelled victory. The honey, however, remained on the lips, as also happened with the Igualada (2-2). Moments of disconnection that explain why the team only scored two points. Last weekend saw another example, when the good play of the first half against Caldes was diluted in the second leg to lose 2-4.
Although he was “aware” that it would be a “complicated season”, Benito does not want to go through the nerves of last season again, when the team saved themselves by winning the play-out at Palafrugell. For this reason, “the attitude, the desire and the delivery cannot be missing”, and “it is necessary to add three at a time to recover the point of trust that we lack”. Garatge Plana Girona needs to find the stability it is lacking and a punch on the table this Saturday in Vilafranca is the best way to start doing that.
