The Astros could have Willson Contreras in their sights

The newly crowned champion Astros are reportedly interested in Venezuelan catcher Willson Contreras, according to a report by MLB Network correspondent Jon Heyman.

The Houston team hasn’t seen much offensive production from their catchers in recent seasons and they focused on resolving that situation during this year’s trade deadline.

At the end of August, the Astros were in negotiations for a possible trade of Contreras from the Cubs, but in the end they acquired from the Red Sox Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez, who hit .250/.278/.308 with one home run in 35 games in Houston.

Contreras concluded this season with the North Chicago team and posted a .243/.349/.466 slash line with 22 home runs and 55 RBIs in 2022.
