In the second test match against the USA within three days, the German soccer players want to put the world champions under a lot.

“We will try again to demand everything from the USA and it will be the same the other way around,” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg before the game on Sunday (11:05 p.m. CET, ARD live stream) in the 25,000-seat arena in Harrison near New York. The Vice European Champions won their first duel 2-1 in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday thanks to a late goal by Paulina Krumbiegel.

“I think a lot of spectators will come again. We noticed that many saw our first game and are full of respect,” said Voss-Tecklenburg. The 54-year-old will use the breadth of her 26-man squad: “Now it’s important to bring in the players who haven’t played from the start.”

Anticipation for game in New York

It is unclear whether the substitute goalkeepers Almuth Schult (Angel City FC) or Ann-Katrin Berger (FC Chelsea) will have a chance to replace the regular goalkeeper Merle Frohms (VfL Wolfsburg). Melissa Kössler from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Janina Minge from SC Freiburg could make their debut in the DFB selection.

“Of course it’s also something special to play here in New York. That’s why we’re now fully focused and looking forward to the second game against the USA,” emphasized the national coach. The two encounters serve as preparation for the World Cup from July 20 to August 20, 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. There, Germany meets Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.
