At the World Cup in Qatar, Spain national coach Luis Enrique was asked who his extended arm was on the field. “I would say Ferran Torres – otherwise my daughter would probably rip my head off,” said the 52-year-old with a smile.
His statement has a specific reason: Torres, one of the big stars in the team and player of FC Barcelona, is in a relationship with Sira Martinez. This is the daughter of coach Luis Enrique. The father-in-law as a trainer – that’s a strange constellation.

Father-in-law as coach? no problem
The 22-year-old Torres and the same age Sira have been a couple since mid-2021. At that time they were still in a long-distance relationship, because the offensive artist was playing for Manchester City at the time. However, last summer he moved to Barcelona, where his Sira lives. It is unclear whether he also took this step because of love, but it was definitely an additional treat.

Torres is also an integral part of the national team. Under Luis Enrique, he earned 32 caps and scored 15 goals. He doesn’t see it as a burden to be coached by his father-in-law: “I don’t see that as additional pressure! The Mister and I can distinguish when it’s about the family and when it’s about the national coach and players. We deal with it quite naturally.”

Incidentally, Sira Martinez is currently in Qatar to support the Spanish team. Fingers crossed for boyfriend and father at the same time – not everyone is lucky enough.
