The poll and the celebratory award ceremony “Smiltene County Sports Award of the Year” has been organized for the 11th year in a row. The main task of the organization is to popularize the achievements of the mighty athletes, teams, sports events and personalities of Smiltene region in the past year or throughout their lifetime. The second important task is to gather together the sports community of Smiltene region.
Citizen involvement is very important in the conduct of the survey. Reviving the previously so popular tradition, this year, too, a fan vote will be held in a total of seven nominations. You will be able to vote for your favorites from December 12 to 26. Voting will be held on the portal smiltenesnovads.lv, on the Smiltenes Province Annual Award Facebook page and on the Instagram account Smiltenes Sports.
From November 28 to December 9, every sports fan, coach, representative of a sports club, or otherwise involved in sports is invited to nominate their applicants in a total of seven nominations.
To do this, the following things should be done:
1. Familiarize yourself with the nominations and conditions in order to meet them.
2. The application for the applicant for the specific nomination must be prepared freely, observing the criteria for the specific nomination. An applicant may apply for several applicants.
3. The application must be sent to the e-mail address: [email protected] until December 9.
Descriptions of nominations:
The best sportsman/sportswoman of the year (For high-level achievements in European and world, as well as national level competitions. Professional or semi-professional sportsman/sportswoman).
Boys Rising Star of the Year. (For high-level achievements in international and national competitions. Athletes from the age of 13-18 are evaluated. Belonging to and patriotism to the county is important, especially in sports developed in Smiltene.
Girls Rising Star of the Year. (For high-level achievements in international and national level competitions. Female athletes from the age of 13-18 are evaluated. Belonging to and patriotism to the region is important, especially in sports developed in Smiltene.)
The best technical athlete of the year. (About high-scale Latvian and international successes in car or motorsport.)
The most popular amateur athlete of the year. (For nationwide success in amateur competitions. Preference is given to candidates who represent Smiltene region in competitions.)
The best team of the year. (Regarding national results in team sports, including individual team sports. Teams bearing the name of Smiltenes region, in which most of them are athletes from Smiltenes region, are evaluated.)
Sports event of the year. (Regional and national successes that take place in the territory of Smiltene county are evaluated. The most important criteria here are: involvement of county residents, publicity on a national scale, total number of participants.)
The fan vote will completely determine the winner of the amateur athlete of the year nomination. In the other nominations, in addition to the fans’ vote, the votes of the coaches of the Smiltene Children’s and Youth Sports School and the members of the Smiltene County Council will also be taken into account. Continuing the traditions, awards will also be presented in such nominations as – the award for lifetime contribution to the sport of Smiltene region and sports veteran of the year.
The survey and the celebratory award ceremony are organized by the Smiltene regional sports administration and the long-standing organizer of the survey – the informal group “Sports Smiltene”.
