Senegal sees star Sadio Mané finally drop out: “He is not recovering quickly enough” | 2022 football world cup

Sadio Mane’s forfait is a huge loss for Senegal. Mané is not only the captain, but he already scored 33 times in 92 international matches for the reigning African champion.

30-year-old Mané injured his right fibula 10 days ago during a match of Bayern Munich in the league against Werder Bremen. He has since recovered at his club himself. His participation in the World Cup was highly uncertain and it was already clear that he would certainly not be fit for the first group match against the Netherlands, but he still got a place in the World Cup squad.

Now it is also clear that the rest of the tournament will come too soon for the wing attacker. “We are working with his club and have just seen and examined the latest scans,” Senegal’s doctor told the press conference.

“His recovery is not going as well as we had hoped. He will not be fit for this World Cup.”
