Sakkari and Sabalenka, those classified to the semifinals of the Nancy Richey Group

In the WTA Finals a decisive day was lived, to define who was going to accompany Maria Sakkari (No. 5 in the world ranking) in the semifinals of the last tournament of the year. Ons Jabeur (2nd) and Aryna Sabalenka (7th), the candidates, since Jessica Pegula (3rd) had already been eliminated. And it was Sabalenka who ended up fulfilling her mission.

Sabalenka was forced to beat the host Pegula in the first turn of the day, to continue with chances to break into the top four. She and she did it with a clear 6-3 and 7-5. In this way, Jabeur arrived without margin of error at his confrontation with Sakkari, who, unlike the Tunisian, the Greek had nothing to lose.

And the pressure seems to have been very strong for Jabeur, since they ran out of chances to get their passage to the semis quickly, after giving up the first quarter 6-2 against the first classified of the competition. In the second set, things did not change too much and the Greek sealed the match with a solid 6-2 and 6-3.

Already known to the two players of this group to be in the next instance, this Saturday the last ticket will be sealed, because Iga Swiatek (1st)after his first two commitments, is already in the next round.

The main dish of the day will be the French Caroline Garcia (6th) and the Russian Daria Kasatkina (8th): the winner of this match will be the last to get into the top four.

On the other hand, the Pole, leader of the WTA ranking, and the young local Cori Gauff (4th) will play a match that will not have anything at stake, since Coco lost her previous duels and came to this one with no chance of advancing.
