KV Kortrijk most likely awaits a fine for throwing flares by supporters during Sunday evening’s match between KV Kortrijk and KAA Gent. However, further investigation of CCTV footage shows that the flares were thrown from outside the stadium. The club has the evidence. In order not to harm the investigation, those images are not yet released.(continue reading below the photo)

“Two firebombs were thrown during the match,” said Eddy Soetaert, communications officer at KV Kortrijk. “They came from the space between the main stand and the standing stand. Fortunately no one was injured. There is also a camera in that corner. After examining the images, we clearly see that the firebombs were thrown from further away. Next to our practice field you have a castle and a large garden. The perpetrators must have gained access to that garden. From there they threw their projectiles towards the Golden Spurs Stadium. In any case, it is someone who can throw firmly far.”

Who responsible?

There were six people in that space at that time. After launching the first flare, you can see on the images that the supporters look upwards. “It is not without danger at all. Suppose a corner was given at that moment,” says Soetaert. “Suppose that the people who were between the two stands had received the firebomb. It’s a sad first for our football. Reportedly, Vincent Kompany’s team also had to deal with it that same weekend. Did the perpetrators get their inspiration there?” (continue reading below the photo)

The police is investigating the case. KV Kortrijk is bored with it because the club can be fined for throwing from outside the stadium to the stadium. And outside the stadium, it is strictly not the responsibility of the club.
