Thibaut Vauchel-Camus 1st in the Ocean Fifty category and 1st Guadeloupe in the “Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe” fleet capsized this Saturday evening, north of the Azores. He won’t go back.

Thibaut Vauchel-Camus capsized on the evening of Saturday November 12, between Portugal and the Azores (nearly 235 miles north of the Azores); this, after three days of racing.

The skipper was tipped to be the first Guadeloupean to cross the finish line of the 12th edition of the “Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe”, in Pointe-à-Pitre, by Friday according to the forecasts. Aboard “Solidaires en Peloton – ARSEP”, he had been at the head of his Ocean Fifty category for almost 24 hours and was sailing towards the South-West

But his solo transatlantic race ends there, after passing the second cold front at the start of the event.

Thibaut Vauchel-Camus”is not injured and is sheltered in the central hull of his trimaran“, indicates the organizers. Since it is dark, he must wait for the help which will intervene in the morning of Sunday.

Where he is, the sea conditions do not seem dangerous, according to specialists, who are not overly worried. Moreover, the skipper has everything he needs on board, to wait quietly.

Now the first Guadeloupe in the fleet is Willy Bissainte, aboard his Rhum Mono, a category in which he is 4th.
He is ahead of Rodolphe Sépho, 33rd among the Imocas.
