After telling the race management of La Route du rhum – Destination Guadeloupe that he was having problems with the sails before November 12, Erwan Thibouméry, who was planning a return to Vigo this Sunday, had suspended his race. He had diverted to Spain. The boat, faced with numerous problems with its sails and, moreover, engine failure, was no longer maneuverable in difficult sea and wind conditions which pushed it to shore.
In difficulty off the Spanish coast overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the skipper requested assistance. The Spanish emergency services went to the area quickly, coordinated by their MRCC. Erwan Thibouméry, who is now on the ground, is fine. The ship drifted and ran aground on Ferreira beach.
