Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez will debut on Tuesday edition 35 of the Yucatan Youth Tennis World Cup. The Yucatecan left-hander knows that he will be looked at with different eyes than he was seen last year.
“I have learned a lot in this past year,” said the tennis player from Merida who yesterday won his debut in doubles in the main Latin American event at this level.
Past year Rodrigo reached the quarterfinals and then he had his debuts in three of the fourth tournaments Junior del Grand Slam. But an injury at the premiere that he had at the ATP Tour in Los Cabos put him out of action.
“I am recovered. And we are going to enjoy this tournament. Go step by step, match by match, trusting that a good tournament will be held,” he said.
He is still convinced that now the responsibility will be greater in his role as second seed in this contest for 18 years and under.
“Last year it was like a novelty. Now I’m more mature, more prepared. And I’m confident in my health ahead. There are a large number of good players in the Cup. It’s going to be interesting.”
With Rodrigo there will be two Yucatecans in the fight because Aimeé Reynoso also entered the ladies’ draw. The two will be in the activity on Tuesday.
