Reckless Boehly, Chelsea Could Need Years to Recover

Jakarta

Chelsea’s recent form has reinforced Gary Neville’s belief that they were making reckless decisions. It could take years for The Blues recovered

Chelsea spent big last summer, spending over £250 million. They bought players like Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

But the problem is that even after that big spending, Chelsea faltered and then sacked Thomas Tuchel. They then appointed Graham Potter as a replacement.

The results with Potter were good, unbeaten in nine matches. However, they have lost four of their last five games, which has put the club back in the spotlight.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville from the start saw a mishandling from management. As is well known, club owner Todd Boehly handled the transfer market himself last summer and did it recklessly.

The fact that he later sacked Tuchel raises questions as to what kind of project he really wants. Neville remains firm in his belief that the current Chelsea team need to be given time to optimize and fans need to be ready they won’t be competitive enough any time soon.

“I was finished off by Chelsea fans at the start of the season, but I’m not surprised by what’s happening to Chelsea now. There’s all the stamp that this is a project that will take time,” he said in a podcast Sky Sportsquoted Metro.

“If you look back at what happened at the start of the season, there is no doubt that this project was handled roughly, with the way the transfer market was handled. That transfer market could take Chelsea many years to recover, if they don’t handle it properly.” .
