Arrived at Real Madrid last summer, Antonio Rüdiger quickly made a place for himself in the team and conquered the supporters. The German centre-back spoke to The Observer (the Sunday edition of the Guardian) about his first few months at the club.
How is Carlo Ancelotti: “He’s calm. He comes from a generation that I never thought he could coach me. It’s already had a surprising effect on me. I’ve never seen anything like it when it comes to how he treats people. The first day I arrived for the presentation, he came to my house and sat down with my family. I was like, ‘This is not normal.’ never had a coach do that for me.”

The quality of Luka Modric: “The pass to Rodrygo with the outside of his foot… It’s normal for him, I rarely see him pass with his left foot.”
The greatness of Real Madrid: “Chelsea have been a big, big, big chapter in my life. But Real Madrid are the creme de la creme of football. In the last nine years they have won five Champions Leagues, that says it all. .”
Antonio Rüdiger has decided to donate the earnings he will receive during the World Cup to finance the operation of 11 children in Sierra Leone, his mother’s country of origin. ????

Germany at the World Cup: “Honestly, if we’re talking about favourites, we have to talk about form. Before the last international break, you were looking at teams like Brazil and France. Thinking about our form, maybe not that much. But we’re a great nation and we have a good team. You can never take us away. Anything can happen.”
