A shaky defense that causes serious headaches, but also one bright spot. Our analysts Marc Degryse, Jan Mulder and Radja Nainggolan, just like the Red Devils, have doubts just before the World Cup.

“Boring”, “sleepy” and “I have no feeling about it.” Our analysts did not get excited about the Red Devils against Egypt in Deviltime. Belgium created little in the front, but was not always precise, especially in defense. “If you give away these chances against a country that is not even at the World Cup, you should worry,” says Nainggolan, who would go back to the Dendoncker-Alderweireld-Vertonghen trio. “Better an old Jan than a young Debast”, were Nainggolan’s eloquent words.
To which Degryse wondered aloud: “The Devils can learn a lot from this. The only question is: can they get all this resolved by Wednesday?”

Ominous, although our analyst trio also saw a stroke of luck: Loïs Openda. “Bobbing is not his thing, but speed and depth are his great assets. And Openda was especially eager to prove itself than Batshuayi,” said Degryse. Mulder’s conclusion is therefore: “For me, Openda has to start against Canada. He brought refreshing football.”
