Players association to appeal Irving’s suspension

In the whole Kyrie Irving thing, the anti-Semitism and the convenient suspension, it is often forgotten that the player is a vice president of the National Players Association (NBPA). In fact, when the Brooklyn Nets rushed to denounce Irving’s behavior, the Association issued a statement condemning the anti-Semitic movement without mentioning Kyrie at all. Now, thanks to a statement from Jaylen Brown, it is known that the players’ union is upset with the conditions that Joe Tsai has imposed on the point guard for his return. Moreover, the Celtics player anticipates an appeal by the Association.

“The terms of his return seem exaggerated. Many players have been uncomfortable with this, “says Brown. “I await an appeal.” The Nets have imposed the fulfillment of six points of requirement for the return of the player:

  • Apologize and condemn the movie.
  • Donate $500,000 to anti-hate causes.
  • Carry out training (classes) on sensitivity.
  • Carry out training (classes) on anti-Semitism.
  • Meet with the Anti Defamation League (ADL) and Jewish leaders.
  • Meet with Joe Tsai (Nets owner) to demonstrate your understanding of the matter.

The minimum five-game suspension that the franchise imposed on him is at this point a simple decoy. Everything indicates that Irving will miss quite a few more games if this continues. Since The Athletic published the aforementioned demands, neither Irving nor the media have clarified the player’s intention to comply or not. At the moment, he has complied with the apologies and has already tried unsuccessfully to donate half a million dollars. In addition to this, he is expected to meet with Adam Silver shortly to discuss the matter later today.
