One of its leaders, Kevin de Bruyne, criticized the strength of the “Guardian” team in an interview the day before the match, stressing that it will not fight for victory in the tournament this time. ”We have no chance because we are too old. Our peak was in 2018. We have a good team, but we are getting older. We have lost some footballers. New ones have arrived, but they are not at the level of the previous ones in 2018.”
Defender Jan Vertonghen responded to a teammate’s criticism after the loss to Morocco. “We didn’t create anything in attack. I have a lot on my mind right now, but you’d better not tell me. We have enough quality players but we didn’t do anything in attack. Perhaps the reason for such a bad attack is that the attacking footballers are too old.”
Vertonghen, however, added that it still has one chance to qualify for the round of 16. “We wanted to do it today, but it didn’t work out. Thursday is our next chance against Croatia.”
