Pat’s stat: the Qataris, the most capped

The RTBF teams accompany you every day to analyze, decipher and bring you to life the 64 matches of this 2022 World Cup. Daily, Mathieu Istace and Patrick Stein go through the statistics and offer you the most significant ones.

This Sunday, it was the average number of caps per player for each team that caught our attention. This statistic perhaps says even more about a team’s international experience than its average age. At the top of the ranking of this “data”, we find Qatar with 53 caps per player. This high figure is explained by the special preparation of Qatar for its World Cup and the large number of matches played by the host country in view of this objective. Second in the ranking, we find Belgium and its many “centenarian” players, with an average of 40 caps per player. Much more surprisingly, the 32nd and last place in this particular ranking is occupied by France. With 13 selections on average, the absences of many executives due to injury weigh heavily in the “experience” coefficient of Didier Deschamps’ team.
