Paris 2024: This is how table tennis qualifies for the Olympic Games

There is less and less for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, the International Olympic Committee confirmed what are the possible paths to reach France.

In less than two years a new edition of the Olympic Games will be held in Paris. However, in this shorter than normal process, after the postponement of Tokyo 2020, The International Olympic Committee confirmed what are the possible paths to reach the new Olympic event in table tennis. It should be noted that Gastón Alto and Horacio Cifuentes competed for Argentina in the last Olympic event.

Looking ahead to Paris, in table tennis there will be three competitions: individual, mixed double and team. In the case of the individual, there will be a total of 86 places per gender: 32 will come from those classified in the team stage; while 22 will win their ticket after the continental pre-Olympicsinstance where Alto and Cifuentes managed to participate in Tokyo 2020. Then, 15 places will be divided according to the world ranking and the last remaining place goes to the host countryin this case France.

In the case of the mixed double, there will be a total of 16 couples, one for each country. Total, 6 places will be defined by continental championshipsFor Argentina it will be in the 2023 Pan American. Another four places will come from the World Pre-Olympic; while 5 more duos will be obtained from the world ranking.

Finally, for the teams, there will be a total of 16 countries, with three players for each one. As in the mixed double, 6 places will be defined by continental championshipswhich has not yet been defined for America, although it is suspected that it may be in Santiago 2023. Then, 8 places will come out of the 2024 World Team Championship, added to a ticket obtained for their position in the ranking and a place reserved for France for being the host.
