Josué Murillo and Michael Moreno, 12 years oldrespectively, will travel on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Panamarepresenting Ecuador in the Judo category, at the Pan American Games.

Samuel Villarreal, coach of the Los Rios province, who is in charge of the discipline of Judo in the Quevedo Cantonal Sports League, mentioned who first sought a place for the pre-selection, and to be able to compete in the national championship, where they participated in the ranking type tournament. Then they participated in the national championship in their respective categories and weight divisions, from there the Ecuadorian Federation of judo nominated the 32 best located in the first ranking of the respective categories, and with the endorsement of the National Federation, they can compete and represent Ecuador in the Pan American Championships in Panama that will start from this Tuesday, November 22, until November 26, 2022.

“Let’s remember that the Ecuadorian Judo Federation only gives them the endorsement, since these categories are formative and are not part of high performance, which is why they have to do self-management to leave the country or to other provinces”, mentioned the coach .

On the other hand, Walter Murillo, father of Josué Murillo, mentioned that he is happy because it is the first time that his son has left the country to participate in the Pan American Games.

“They are the fruits of five years of training, which has made my son show what he knows. I aspire and I am sure that it will bring a gold medal, to achieve this we have carried out some activities to be able to raise the necessary funds, and to be able to pay for the tickets, “said Murillo, who also mentioned that to belong to Judo you must have excellent grades.

Josué Murillo has participated three times in national competitions and has won gold medals.

He currently has 17 medals in his gallery, and has participated since he was eight years old, in various local, provincial and national competitions. (SCC)
