Soccer coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, has declared his coaching career over.

The 74-year-old announced on club TV before the last game against Botafogo Rio de Janeiro (3-0) that he would now become the director of his previous club, Athletico Paranaese.

With 27 titles won, Scolari is one of the most successful coaches in Brazilian football history. He twice won the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the Champions League. He celebrated his greatest triumph in 2002 when he led Brazil in the final against Germany (2-0) to their fifth and last World Cup title so far.

Scolari also experienced bitter defeats. In 2004 he lost with Portugal in the final of the home European Championship outsiders Greece 0-1. At the 2014 World Cup, he failed colossally in the World Cup semifinals with hosts Brazil against eventual world champions Germany (1:7).
