Accomplices various physical problems – especially the right knee injury last year – James Wiseman has never found continuity in the Golden State Warriors, where he recorded only 50 games in the NBA. In the Summer League he played four games where he averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Even this season he is not finding much space, which is why Steve Kerr has decided to send him to the G League to play with the Santa Cruz Warriors. The player respects the decision and doesn’t see his move to the G League as a downgrade:

“I don’t consider this decision as a demotion: I’m just ready to go out there and score”

Steve Kerr: ‘He needs to play, so I’m sure he will become a very good player’

To be really useful to the cause of the Golden State Warriors, James Wiseman must accumulate minutes and find the best psychophysical condition. For this reason Steve Kerr decided to let the player join the Santa Cruz Warriors, as he explains in the post-win press conference against the Spurs:

“He needs repetition and, above all, he needs to play: it’s not easy when you don’t have minutes. That’s the only way he can help us out: I’m really convinced that, in the long run, he’ll be a really good player.”

Also Jordan Poole (36 points for him tonight against the Spurs) played 11 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2020-2021, which is why you feel like telling Wiseman that this decision is not a demotion:

“I told him this is not a relegation, this is not a punishment, but I told him to go over there and make 50 shots, be aggressive, take technicians, hang on to the basket and do whatever he thinks. Only then can he understand what it means to be at the top level: this is just a step in that direction”
