RIYADH – Claim that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman awarded a Rolls Royce luxury car to every national football team (Timnas) player Arab Saudi at the 2022 World Cup is not true.

Saudi Arabia national team coach Herve Renard has denied those claims – claims that emerged after their stunning win over Argentina.

Previously, reports circulated that Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud would present each of the Arab national team players with a luxury car worth IDR 24 billion when they returned from Qatar.

But now, Renard has dismissed the reports saying, “there is nothing true about this”.

According to New York PostHerve Renard said, “We have a federation and a very serious Ministry of Sport and it’s not the time to get something right now. We only played one game, have two games [babak grup] which is very important and we look forward to many more.”

“I don’t know if you remember the press conference before [pertandingan melawan] Argentina. I said match [melawan] Argentina is one of the three important games we have to play. The only good thing at the end of this group stage is finishing number 1 or number 2,” he said, as quoted NDTVMonday (28/11/2022).

“That’s not true. We are here to serve our country and do our best. That’s the prize,” he said.

Reports that the Saudi Arabia national team will receive a luxury car first emerged from a social media post by a Pakistani dentist.

Meanwhile, after Saudi Arabia’s historic victory over Argentina, the country declared a national holiday for celebration.

However, Saudi Arabia lost 2-0 to Poland on Saturday, leaving the Group C champions wide open.

Now, Saudi Arabia’s final group stage game against Mexico will take place on Wednesday this week.
