For now, the player with the most matches in the World Cups is still the German Lothar Matthaus25 from 1982 to 1998. Beat another German, Miroslav Klose (24 from 2002 to 2014) and Italian Paul Maldini (23 from 1990 to 2002). Lionel Messi completed 20 games against Saudi Arabia and Cristiano Ronaldo has 17. Both Messi and Cristiano can get on the podium of this classification if Argentina and Portugal reach final instances in Qatar.
