Daniil Medvedev was eliminated in round two of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 tennis tournament on Wednesday.

Three days after his final success at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, the Russian lost 4:6.6:2.5:7 in his opening match as number four to Alex de Minaur. Medvedev ended the match with a double fault and then smashed his racquet. Next came the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (No. 1). The race for the last two ATP Finals tickets was decided.

Because both the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (No. 10) with a 5:7.1:6 against the Dane Holger Rune as well as the American Taylor Fritz (9) with a 5:7.7:5.4:6 against the French Gilles Simon missed their small chances of entering Turin. The Russian Andrej Rublew (7) and the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (8), who has not been defeated in 14 matches, are firmly in the season final tournament. Simon plays the last tournament of his career. The 37-year-old duped the Scotsman Andy Murray in lap one, and now he was applauded again. Auger-Aliassime is his next opponent.
