Masters Paris: Daniil Medvedev fails with a freak out in the second round to Australian Alex de Minaur

Medvedev lost the match with a double fault, then threw his racquet on the ground in anger and yelled at the referee. The former champion then left the Accor Arena to catcalls. “In my opinion, the umpire didn’t make a good match, but I’m not criticizing that,” said Medvedev after his defeat, but admitted to himself: “In the end my behavior wasn’t good, I can admit that.”

De Minaur, the 23-year-old meets the American Frances Tiafoe. The US Open semi-finalist had confidently prevailed against British Jack Draper in 1:26 hours 6: 3, 7: 5.

World number one Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, had no problems with the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka at his start in Paris and made it into the round of 16 after just 1:12 hours 6:4, 6:4. There the US Open champion meets Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian swept past Fabio Fognini in the first set in just 33 minutes, missing the Italian with a bagel and winning 6-0, 7-5 after a more competitive second set.
