Martial arts: Burkinabè Israel Mano aims for the Ultimate Fighting Championship

After his coronation on October 22 at the Mixed Martial Art (MMA) Brave 64-African All Stars in the 93 kg light heavyweight category, Israel Mano faced the press on Friday November 4, 2022, in Ouagadougou. During this face-to-face with journalists, the athlete returned to his love for martial arts. On the occasion, he presented his prize list in order to reveal himself more to Burkinabè.

“Through this press conference, I want to retrace my journey in order to benefit from more encouragement and support from all Burkinabè”, indicated, from the start, the MMA world champion, 93 kg category, Israel Mano.

Israel Mano has won several medals in several disciplines. From MMA to Vovinam Viet Vodao via Kung Fu Wuschu, judo, Boxing Open Karate Contract, traditional wrestling, Sambo, to name a few.

The youngest of six siblings, the champion discovered his love for martial arts very early on. Listening to him, the trigger came after a street fight with a young man from his neighborhood. After that, Israel Mano decided to start practicing martial arts. Not in order to be violent, but rather to get justice. “So I started fighting at the age of 13. I took part in my first Vovinam Viet Vodao National Championship in 2013,” he said.

Israel Mano is the most successful athlete in Burkina Faso.

It was the same year that he won his very first medal. His favorite martial art is Vovinam Viet Vodao. The practice of MMA requires having knowledge in several arts. “MMA is a sport where martial arts are combined. To practice it, it is not enough to be a good wrestler or a good boxer. You have to have a minimum of knowledge in several martial arts, ”he said.

Abraham Mano, the champion’s older brother, is on Israel’s staff.

Israel Mano does not intend to stop on such a good path. He plans to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the most prestigious mixed martial arts organization in the world. For this, he seeks the support and accompaniment of the people of Burkina Faso, in particular the Ministry in charge of Sports. As a reminder, the MMA world champion, 93kg category, was elevated by the President of Faso, in 2016, to the rank of Knight of the Order of Merit for Youth and Sports.
