Mario Götze is said to be waving a regular place at the World Cup in Qatar

Just in time for the 2022 World Cup, Mario Götze has made it back into the squad of the German national team after many years. Allegedly, the offensive player from Eintracht Frankfurt even has a regular place in Qatar.

For the first time since November 2017, Mario Götze is back in the squad of the German national team.

For the 30-year-old World Cup final hero from 2014, it’s a point load, because it’s clear: the former offensive jewel of BVB and FC Bayern, which celebrated a furious Bundesliga comeback at Eintracht Frankfurt in the past few months, flies to football – World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Secret meeting between DFB and Eintracht Frankfurt

Apparently, however, Götze tied his participation in the World Cup to certain requirements.

The TV station “Sport1” reports that a few weeks ago there was “an important conversation” between national coach Flick, DFB director Oliver Bierhoff and Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche.

The secret meeting is said to have been about expectations in the event of Götze’s World Cup nomination.

Major role for Mario Götze at the World Cup?

Apparently, Götze did not want to fly to Qatar for the World Cup just as a supplementary player or figurehead. The ex-BVB star is hoping for assignments. According to “Sport1”, the player’s expectations coincide with the ideas of the national coach.

Accordingly, Flick should see Götze as a supporting figure and potential regular player – and a character who, with his experience as a former “talent of the century”, can show today’s youngsters like Jamal Musiala, Karim Adeyemi or Youssoufa Moukoko the way.

In any case, national coach Flick was convinced when the German World Cup squad was presented on Thursday. “Götze has been with us for a long time, he’s really happy, I can say that,” said the 57-year-old. Joachim Löw’s successor currently sees Götze “at a very high level”.

Frankfurt’s playmaker is in great shape and can “walk 90 minutes three times a week,” emphasized Flick. Then he emphasized Götze’s individual class: “We’re looking forward to him too. Mario is a brilliant soccer player who has flashes of inspiration, who does everything intuitively. He can give us a surprise or two.”
