Marín advances to the quarterfinals with a quick win over Singaporean Min

The Spanish Carolina Marín qualified this Thursday in 33 minutes for the quarterfinals of the German Open badminton by defeating the Singaporean Yeo Jia Min 21-14 and 21-17

Until 11-11, the Huelva-born woman did not manage to escape in the first set, with both players very sure of their shots.

The second was much clearer and Marin never let the Asian go ahead. The Spanish came to have an advantage of 11 points that allowed her to face a late reaction from her rival, who went from 18-5 to 18-14. The former world champion recovered her concentration to close the match.

Her rival in the quarterfinals will be the Chinese Zhang Yi Man.

Marín is the first seed in the tournament that takes place in Saarbrücken, which she arrives after losing in the final of the French Open, although in the semifinals she had eliminated the number one in the world, the Japanese Akane Yamaguchi.

“Tactically it has gone very well,” said Marin after today’s match, “except at the end of the second set, when I left the concentration. Now let’s prepare very well for tomorrow’s match and we will go all out.”
