Magellanic at the final of the Araucanía Games

Lhe Magellan National Team, fulfilling its winning tradition in the Araucanía Games, qualified for the finals of the women’s basketball tournament in the binational youth event that culminates today in the Los Lagos Region.

The magellanics defeated Los Lagos 57-45 in the semifinals yesterday, a team that reached the round of the best four undefeated.

The cast of our region will dispute the crown today at 2:00 p.m. in the Fiscal de Ancud gym against Río Negro from Argentina, who in the other “semis” key dispatched Biobío (another who arrived undefeated) 68-60.

MEDALLISTS

In the individual performances, Magellanic judo responded again with more than a dozen medals, the most recent being Valeria Meriño, silver in -63 kilos, and Rafaela Alvarez, also silver in -57 kilos.

Swimming also had achievements, such as Digna Agudo’s gold in the 100-meter butterfly; the silver medal in the 4 by 50 freestyle relay with Leonardo Gatica, Joaquín, Gutiérrez, Martín Henríquez and Camila Molina as protagonists; and the bronze medal won by Elena Aros in the 200-meter breaststroke.

For her part, the athlete Monserrat Villarroel achieved silver in the triple jump, all this according to the preliminary count, pending the official results that Mindep and IND should deliver at some point.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

As for other collective competitions, Magallanes had an irregular first phase in group “B” of men’s basketball, with three wins and the same number of losses, to finish fourth in zone “B” among seven teams.

Yesterday they closed the qualifying phase with a 79-84 defeat against Tierra del Fuego and in the afternoon they fell 57-76 against Neuquén at the start of the consolation round.

In this way, our regional representative will dispute seventh place today against Tierra del Fuego or Los Lagos (who were playing at the close of this information), starting at 10 am in Castro.

“VOLEY” ELEVENTH

Both women’s and men’s volleyball in Magallanes finished the Games in the penultimate position. Both finished the group stage sixth among seven teams with one win and five losses.

Yesterday, for eleventh place, the ladies beat Aysén 3-2 and the men beat the same representative 3-1, surpassing only Aysén and Ñuble in the table.

FOOTBALL WITHOUT TRIUMPHS

Magallanes couldn’t in soccer either. The ladies lost their two games in the group phase and yesterday fell 1-4 with La Pampa at the beginning of the dispute for the secondary places. Today they will go for the eleventh rung against Aysén at 9 am in Puerto Montt.

The same for the men: they will play for eleventh place in Osorno against Aysén, after finishing third among four in the group phase with one draw and two losses, plus yesterday’s 0-3 setback against Río Negro in the consolation round.

This 29th edition of the Araucanía Games has the participation of seven regions of our country (Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes) and six Argentine provinces (La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego).
