Ligue 1: winner against Clermont (2-1), Lens returns to two points behind PSG

They held the barracks. On Saturday, RC Lens consolidated their place as runner-up to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, winning 2-1 at Stade Bollaert against Clermont Foot. The Lensois (36 points) thus return to two points behind PSG before the leader’s match against Auxerre on Sunday (1 p.m.). After being led 0-1, the Sang et Or overthrew Auvergnats rather prominent in the first period but somewhat extinguished in the second act. Lens thus garners an 8th consecutive success at home.

Pushed to their limits several times in the first half, the Northerners conceded the opener from a corner. Hit at the near post, the ball hit the hip of Abdul Samed, guilty of an own goal (39th). A few minutes earlier, Brice Samba had released a superb clap in rear imbalance to prevent a Clermont lob from afar.

But when we returned from the locker room, the face of the match changed. Wesley Saïd first allowed the Lensois to pick up at 1-1 on a superb cross from Florian Sotoca from the right lane. Saïd then only had to resume in front of the penalty spot (60th).

Perfectly in control after this goal, RC Lens then pushed until they got a real chance. Seko Fofana achieved very good forward control on a strong cross. Eliminating his defender, the midfielder then slipped the ball between the legs of the opposing goalkeeper (68th) to offer his 11th success this season and put pressure on PSG.

“We didn’t have an average first half, we had a good game but unfortunately we conceded a goal from a set ball. We had the opportunities but we had not been able to materialize, said right winger Florian Sotoca. At the start of the second period, we managed to put on more rhythm and intensity and we were effective, that’s the most important thing. It’s another great victory, deserved I think, we put this Clermont team in difficulty. We can enjoy the holidays now. »
