I can’t take that goal

Gigio Donnarumma reviewed his mistake on the occasion of Alaba’s goal and analyzed it on the microphones of RaiSport after the defeat against Austria.

Gigio Donnarumma was the protagonist for better or for worse of the defeat of theItalia in Austria. The goalkeeper of the national team was criticized for the mistake made during David Alaba’s free-kick, which led to a 2-0 win for the Austrians; and then he saved the Azzurri from embarking with a couple of prodigious saves.

The number 1 of the European champion selection was not brilliant on the Austrian captain’s shot and although he has always looked at the ball since it came off Alaba’s foot, Donnarumma was unable to oppose the shot in any way. Almost as if he was petrified.

On the mistake made on the occasion of Alaba’s goal, Gigio expressed himself in this way in the post-match to the microphones of RaiSport: “I was expecting this type of shot because I knew that the cursed woman shoots like this from a distance, flat.”

They concede goals 8 seconds after kick-off – the unreal mess of defenders and goalkeeper

Still on that episode he continued as follows: “A strange shot, he scored an incredible goal, then I’ll look at it better and see where I could have done better and where I went wrong. I’m looking back at it now, it’s an incredible shot. I certainly can’t concede goals from there on my post. I’ll analyze it. I’ll look at it and work on it better.”

Not a small awareness for a boy who is often targeted by his national team’s fans and, above all, very different from the angry one last June after the mistake against Germany in the Nations League.

Regarding the defeat against Austria he said: “There are no alibis but being here and seeing the others at the World Cup has a bit of an impact, it’s hard but feeling sorry for yourself is useless. We have to roll up our sleeves and find the compactness we had before”.

Finally Donnarumma talks about the path that the national team should take to try to return to the top: “We need to transform what we have done wrong in recent months into a positive and we will do so because we are a large group led by an excellent coach. We want to qualify for the European Championships and then move forward”.
