GM thinks Kyrie Irving ‘won’t play in the NBA again’

Kyrie Irving apologized for having posted on his social networks the poster of a documentary containing anti-Semitic theories, a link he has since removed. But the All-Star leader is still suspended for five games – at least – by the Brooklyn Nets and he will have to fulfill six conditions to return to the New York franchise.

The 6 missions of Kyrie Irving to have the right to play again

There is no guarantee that it will. Maybe the Nets will hang him around until his contract expires next summer. Or maybe they’ll cut him off, giving him the opportunity to bounce somewhere else. Who knows. In any case, for a GM questioned by The Athleticit’s pretty clear:

“I don’t think Kyrie Irving will play in the NBA again. »

The American media also polled other leaders on the issue. They were a little less categorical.

“We won’t sign him, but someone will. There is always a demand for such a talented player,” one told them.

“There will always be a franchise desperate enough to sell their soul by signing him to a short contract thinking they have the leadership established enough to contain him. I think he will only sign one-year contracts from now on,” adds another.

Kyrie Irving could have left Brooklyn in July. He had the opportunity to test the market but he finally “opted in” by activating his last year of contract because he felt that the offers would be unattractive after playing only 29 games in 2021-2022 following his refusal to to get vaccinated. He then hoped to be able to find a new base via a transfer, but he himself admitted that he did not have many possibilities.

He will be a free agent in 2023. So will there be a team to sign him? The majority of GMs relayed by The Athletic seem to think so, one of them advancing case law Latrell Sprewell, who had strangled his coach. These are very, very different situations. And given how it’s gone, not sure that an organization tries its luck to sign a superstar so often absent and who divides so much, without even mentioning his mania for blowing up the teams where he sets foot.
