Frankfurt surprises and cheers, but Tottenham still becomes group winner | UEFA Champions League 2022/2023

Marseille started the last chance match in 4th place in Group D and had donned his most beautiful costume.

The first half was whirlwind, Chancel Mbemba signed for a high point in extra time. After a masterly détente he nodded the 1-0 in.

Tottenham, however, changed their mind after the break and Clément Lenglet’s quick equalizer gave a sigh of relief.

Marseille had fallen from its cloud, but thanks to the almost simultaneous 1-1 (a penalty) from Frankfurt at Sporting, everything was returned after an hour as at the first whistle: Tottenham and Sporting through, EL for Frankfurt and nothing for Marseille.

After the 1-2 of Frankfurt in Lisbon, the rollercoaster went the other way: Frankfurt actually group winner, Sporting from heaven to hell.

And it wasn’t over yet. When Frankfurt was released by the final whistle, it was virtual group winner.

But Tottenham still had the winning goal in store in the 95th minute at the Stade Vélodrome.

1-2 and group win for the Londoners, Marseille was actually left empty-handed.

Frankfurt advances as number 2, Sporting falls back to the Europa League.
