Rick Karsdorp has been a topic of conversation in Italy in recent days. The former Feyenoord player received the full blow from coach Jose Mourinho after another disappointing result in the Serie A.
“The team’s commitment was betrayed by the attitude of an unprofessional player,” Mourinho said last week. In the eyes of the trainer, Karsdorp’s substitute against Sassuolo was the last straw. “He betrayed everyone else. A mistake is part of the game, but I had 16 players on the field and I didn’t like one.”
Mourinho did not mention Karsdorp by name at the time, but it soon became clear that it was the 27-year-old right back. Mourinho later told the press conference that Karsdorp may leave the club in January. According to The Gazzetta dello Sport Juventus are closely monitoring the situation. The agent would already be in talks to discuss a rental period.
Emile Schelvis sees Mourinho using a familiar tactic. AS Roma lost the game of the year against SS Lazio and lost points again a week later. “He now has a small fish that he lets flop around,” the journalist says in conversation with Football news. “He is going to fight with that, hoping to keep the sympathy of the Roma tifosi. It’s Mourinho’s well-known scapegoat tactic.”
Kamp-Karsdorp wants an explanation
“We are surprised by Mourinho’s statements, which point to Rick,” a statement on the website of the NOS. “Without Mourinho or AS Roma mentioning Rick’s name. We want an explanation from the club about the words of the trainer, and the way in which he has done it. That’s not how you treat a player who has been playing for AS Roma for five years.”
