For two days, figures at the World Cup caused a bit of confusion – at least among the statistics nerds in football.

When the audience numbers were announced for the first four games in Qatar, a far higher number was mentioned than the arenas should actually have capacity. nice calculation? Manipulation? Probably not.

Before the World Cup, the world association FIFA had obviously given rounded capacities for all stadiums, this was corrected on Tuesday.

No game sold out yet

FIFA published the official capacity of the eight World Cup arenas. If you add up the capacity of all stadiums, there are now 46,231 more seats available – the capacity of another complete stadium. This makes it clear: There are still tickets for the World Cup, none of the first four games were sold out.

The official stadium capacities:

Al-Bait Stadium 68,895 instead of 60,000
Al-Janub Stadium 44,325 instead of 40,000
Ahmad bin Ali Stadium 45,032 instead of 40,000
Chalifa International Stadion 45,857 instead of 40,000
Education City Stadion 44,667 instead of 40,000
Lusail Stadion 88,966 instead of 80,000
974 Stadium 44,089 instead of 40,000
