That’s not the fine English way at all…
On Monday, FC Southampton fired coach Ralph Hasenhüttl (55) after a good four years in office.
Now ex-striker Charlie Austin (33) speaks up and kicks badly against the Austrian. Austin played for Southampton from 2016 to 2019, so he only spent half a year under the coach.

The Englishman, who is now active in the second division on the island (EFL Championship) with Queens Park Rangers, nailed Hasenhüttl on the radio show “TalkSPORT Breakfast”: “When the team wasn’t playing well, he was always quick to attack the players. But when the team performed well, it was all about itself.”
boom! In the four years under Hasenhüttl, FC Southampton was never really threatened with relegation, but they were never able to place in the top half of the Premier League either. Not a really good record for Austin.
The striker: “He was there for four years and his highest score was 52 points, the rest was around 40 points. Has the team ever ended up in the top half of the table since Hasenhüttl was there? No.”

The club from the south of England is currently in a relegation zone, the 1: 4 home defeat against Newcastle United at the weekend was too much. The end for Hasenhüttl.
Not a surprise to Austin: “When you’re asked if you can get out of a slump and you say ‘no’…I guess no coach is allowed to say that. You have to inspire your team. Even if you don’t believe in it, you have to say that you can turn the tide.”
