Edith Sigala starts competitions in the Adapted Table Tennis World Cup – El Sol de Toluca

The para athlete from the State of Mexico Edith Sigala started competitions in the World Adapted Table Tennis Championships, in Andalusia, Spain, the objective is to add the highest number of points in the ranking towards the Parapan American Games.

In the contest where representatives from 51 countries participate, the athlete who was selected nationally for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, won the ticket thanks to the fact that she is the best athlete in the Americas in the TT3 category, so she comes with good arguments to get involved in the medal table.

The rest of the national team is made up of Claudia Pérez Villalba and Martha Alicia Verdín Cedeño, who also perform well in the competitions.

However, for Edith Sigala it will not be an easy task to get a good position, since the rules have changed and apparently the direct classification will be eliminated, however it is very important because it will allow accumulating points (up to 80) for the ranking towards the Parapan American Games. of Santiago de Chile 2023.

After going through injuries due to an accident that took her away from the sport for several months, she considered that she has reached a good level to be the protagonist in the World Cup that will conclude on November 13.

“I return to competitions again, in the Cristina Hoffman Cup that took place in Cancun in June I was still weak, but now in this World Cup I feel that I am already stronger and we will see how I do in international competition. All the strong athletes go in my category, among them those selected from Croatia, Italy and Korea”, the Mexican woman told Conade.

In the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, the result for Edith was not what she expected as she was left out of the medal table after suffering two consecutive defeats in the group stage, the situation deserved a deep reflection that led her to even think about retirement and rule out Paris 2024.

However, the World Cup in Spain will be a good parameter of the work done in search of having a successful Paralympic cycle that will lead her to look for the ticket to the next edition of the Paralympics.
